Let's Start With the Rescues...

Johnny
I got a call from a friend several years ago asking if I'd take in 2 yearling black alpacas. The owner was getting older and could not care for them any longer. I said yes, so Maria and I made the trip to Billings, Montana to pick up the two half brothers with no names, that we named Johnny and Cash, our men in black.
They both jumped out of the trailer that brought them and into the backseat of our truck like they knew they were going home. We rode home with our new friends and talked to them and played Johnny Cash music on our way back to Wyoming. It was in the fall and they had not yet been shorn, so it was too late to shear them with winter coming on. They would have to live with their long coats until Spring.

Both were shy, but they soon came around to trust us. Johnny was the more outgoing of the two and trusted to take treats from our hands first. Johnny's best non-alpaca friend is Lexi the mustang. Johnny likes to eat together with Lexi and they have been seen playing together several times and seem to enjoy each other's company. Johnny and Cash also have kept a tight friendship and bond as do all of the rescues when we take them in. ​

Timothy our king, need I say more. Allow me to expand. Timothy came to us from the shelter. He immediately took his spot on high as the ruler of the household.

Spirit is an extra gentle soul. For many weeks, he would stand back and curiously watch Maria feed out peppermint treats to the rest of the herd. After observing this routine for multiple nights, he finally made the brave move to take his first treat. He now loves lining up for peppermints and also occasionally enters the house. His mom is SummerRain, and he is the brother to Tony, Labreeska, LaRain, and Antares.                                                                    
Michael
Coming into the world, Michael struggled to breathe which had us also holding out breath. Once he found his bearings, he flourished. He is named after the archangel Michael because he reminded us of an angel and looked so pure, beautiful, and good. He has lived up to his name. I can't think of one flaw about this precious soul. Something extra special about Michael is he has two alpaca moms who have nursed him. He gets nourishment from his biological mom LaRain and his great aunt Freedom Wind. We are pretty certain this is because one of his best friends is Moonflower and her mom is Freedom Wind. He has always drank from whoever he was closest to while being near Moonflower. 
Moonflower
Moonflower was named after the pretty white flowers that were in bloom the month she was born. She is our only alpaca (so far) that likes to drink from the barn water faucet. Moonflower is the youngest daughter of Freedom Wind, and a sister to Daniel and Lily Pearl. 
Dark Eagle
Dark Eagle was blessed with an eagle that flew over at her birth. She's become best friends with Antares. Both like to visit the house to have a breakfast before breakfast. They show up at the door and head straight to the kitchen for their bowls.

Dark Eagle has developed a special interspecies friendship with our adopted cat Gabriel. The two can also be seen in the living room having loving-wrestle matches that include lots of hugs and nibbles. 

Dark Eagle is the first true black alpaca born here. Though we have other black alpacas (Johnny, Cash, Vivian), those three are rescues who were not born here. 

Dark Eagle is extremely sweet and loves to play with Maria. Those two have a very special bond and relationship.

The Flock

Mulberry 
​At 12 years of age, Mulberry is one of the oldest ducks in the flock. Although she's a Chocolate Runner duck, her feather's have gradually whitened over the years. 
Ash
Ash and Mulberry both arrived together, making them the oldest ducks in the flock at 12 years old. She is a black Runner duck with splashes of white now covering her feathers.
